- The terminology used in a coffee shop is different than everyday English, so it’s important to learn these terms. Generally a large cup of coffee is 16oz, medium 12oz and small 8oz. However, in America a large cup of coffee is 20 oz, a medium is 16oz and a small is 12oz. Furthermore, they are not called large, medium and small, but they are called venti, grande, and tall.
