Common methods used around the world for designing coffee shop lighting
Back to Top-
For any business, storefront lighting must be designed to attract customers and you must point out the character of the business. In this way it’s easy for customers to identify the shop, make a selection, recognize the place and enter.
We all know design has three major elements; the first one is how the space is laid out, the second is lighting, the third one is the color patterns. Therefore, the design of the lighting is a very important link which can’t be ignored. Don’t think it’s very easy and that it’s something everyone can do. The fact is the easier things appear, the more careful you must be when designing them. You could say it looks easy but in reality it’s difficult. We have provided a few suggestions for everyone to consider:
1. Generally from the customers’ point of view, they associate tiers of soft lighting with coffee shops because every coffee shop around the world has incorporated this design method in their storefront. Therefore, this point of view has existed for a long time, so when we design the coffee shop we must follow this rule; however it’s your decision if you want to proceed in another direction when designing the lighting of the store, but ultimately if you suffer losses it’s to your disadvantage.
2. In the coffee shop, no matter if you choose the round light bulb, oval shaped, semi circle, horn shaped or any kind of shape they are all acceptable as long as your style and the whole environment is in harmony. However, you must observe these rules: that the lampshades you use are the same, the color and luster of the lights must be unified, the height that you hang the lamp must be in order and the same, and the distance between the lamps should be sensible. In this way the lighting will be acceptable from the angle of design.
3. Coffee shops are a good place for people to relax and chat, so for the lighting we do our best possible to light up the walls which makes the surroundings light and dims other areas to better enhance the mood and aura of the coffee shop. Of course, for some particular seats you can display the lights more brightly if a customer wants to read a book or use the computer, but this must be controlled and limited to a certain space.

SPR Coffee setting requirements for the main outdoor sign
Back to Top-
The logo on the main sign allows the customer to distinguish the coffee chop very quickly; meanwhile the main sign also creates its own unique mood for the coffee shop. It’s an item which can’t be missing. We have unified standards for the franchise store for setting the SPR Coffee sign. In the following we have listed seven rules:
1. An example of the measurements for SPR Coffee’s sign:
2. SPR Coffee’s English logo has 9 letters, and the height of each letter is 50cm and the distance between the letters is 8 cm wide. After setting the sign the total length of the sign is 4m. However, the distance between the ‘R’ of SPR and the ‘C’ of Coffee must be 40cm.
3. If the size for the letters has changed then you have to follow the scale to make the changes. For example if the regulated size for the sign changes to each letter 60cm in height and a total length of 4.8m or if the sign is 30cm in height with a total length of 2.4m, you must change your sign to comply with SPR Coffee’s scale.
4. When setting the SPR Coffee sign, there must be a space above and under the sign. We recommend at least 10cm from the border of the sign to the lettering, both above and below the letters SPR Coffee, with a space more than 20cm resulting in a better looking sign.
5. Regarding the color of the sign, if the bottom color of the front of the coffee shop is green, black or any dark color then you should use white for the lettering. However, if the bottom color is cream or any other light color then you should use green for the lettering.
6. You must save a space behind the sign for a place to connect the circuits. In principle, every two letters requires one transformer, but ‘R’ must have its own transformer. Of course each letter having its own transformer is also a good way to wire the sign. Every transformer must hide behind the letters; from the outside you must not be able to see any of the wires and transformers.
7. If the height of the sign isn’t according to the SPR Coffee standard size of 50 cm then the amount of transformers must be determined by the size of the letters. For example, if the letters are less than 30cm in height, then you can use one transformer for three letters. If the height of the letters is above 70cm then you must use one transformer for each letter. Meanwhile the connection of the letters and the transformers must be connected in a series. The total length for high pressure wires cannot be over 150cm, and when connecting high voltage transformers it is best if the high pressure wires are the same length. When connecting the letters to the transformers you must use silica gel and high pressure wire. You definitely must not use normal wire in place of high pressure wire. For the circuit lead you must add a glass insulator and make it tight and stable.

SPR Coffee setting requirements for indoor lighting
Back to Top-
Coffee shops are a good place for people to relax and chat, so for the lighting we do our best possible to light up the walls which makes the surroundings light and dims other areas to better enhance the mood and aura of the coffee shop. Of course, at some particular seat you can display the lights more brightly if a customer wants to read a book or use the computer, but this must be controlled and limited to a certain space. The following will introduce the lamps and lights used in each part of the interior of the coffee shop as well as the wattage of the lighting.
1. The main service area where the main counter is must be bright. You can use more than 20 lights with 60 watt yellow light bulbs. The purpose for this is to show our customers that this area is the heart of the coffee shop (meaning it’s the most important area). 150 watt yellow light bulbs should be used around the ordering menu on the wall to allow the customers to see the menu clearly.
2. The lighting for the main walls of the coffee shop must be bright. Normally we use 150 watt yellow light bulbs because yellow light can present a warm and homey feeling. For other walls, 60 watt yellow light bulbs can be used because they are not focal points like the main walls are. To present a better result with your lighting, when you are setting the spotlights they must be more than 50cm away from the wall. In this way you can illuminate a much larger area compared to illuminating a small spot on the wall which just wastes energy and doesn’t look good, either.
3. Other areas in the coffee shop do not need to be as bright as the main service areas. We suggest using a black cylindrical lighting fixture and you can use 3 watt energy saving light bulbs. In this way you save money on your electricity bill and it produces a good atmosphere. The height for all the black cylindrical lighting fixtures must all be the same.
4. Yellow horn shaped lights placed by the window don’t need to be bright, which therefore will show the soft feeling of the coffee shop. These horn shaped lights must be the same height from the ground and we suggest using 3-5 watt energy saving yellow light bulbs. We suggest hanging these lights 180cm from the ground so we can avoid the customers bumping their heads on the light fixtures. In order to beautify the whole environment and bring the whole area into harmony we need to add 1cm diameter PVC tubing that has been painted black, which is intended to cover the wiring. We do this to make the light fixtures appear steady and solid.
5. If you need to add blinds to the glass windows to avoid harmful UV rays or for privacy reasons we suggest using blinds which hang 177cm from the ground which will be 3cm above the light fixtures. To avoid the customer adjusting the blinds themselves then you should fix the height of the blinds and put away the string which can adjust the height of the blinds (automated blinds don’t have this problem)
6. Above the self service area, we have designed a triangle shaped ceiling light which makes it more convenient for the customers to use this area where they can get napkins, sugar, water etc. This area should be bright and we suggest using 5-7 watt energy saving yellow lights. The triangle ceiling light is a uniquely designed product and it must be hung directly over the self service area. We use two identical triangle lights in this area which differ in height. They are side by side and one light is exactly one triangle shaped light higher than the other. To protect the wire of the triangle shaped light and to make the light look better, we suggest using PVC tubing which is 1cm in diameter and painted black to keep the environment in harmony. A spot must be saved to plug in the lights somewhere close to the self service counter which will allow the lights for the self service counter to be connected.
7. We also have uniquely designed light fixtures for the wall which look like a mask. This light has its own special qualities which everyone likes. To emphasize the atmosphere of this area we suggest using 3 watt energy saving yellow light bulbs. Above this light you can hang the SPR Coffee franchise affiliation sign. This sign shows that your SPR Coffee store is a legal SPR Coffee franchise.
8. The restrooms are extremely important parts of the coffee shop. We will provide a detailed description in a following chapter on our restrooms. The lighting in the rest room must be bright, so we suggest using 60 watt yellow light bulbs along with 17 watt energy saving yellow light bulbs.
9. Finally, we reiterate that the coffee shop can only have yellow lights and white light bulbs are unsuitable, so white light bulbs should not be seen in the coffee shop.
